Fisher 26 outboard motor is a budget and at the same time economical model in the Fisher brand line. It is designed for installation on aluminum, plastic boats, as well as on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) inflatable boats. It is perfect for trolling fishing, when you need to move quietly and carefully on the water, as well as for convenient maneuvering on small water vehicles. The maximum load capacity of the boats is 300 kilograms, and the length of such vessels should not exceed three meters. Due to the fact that the engine does not produce exhaust gases and operates almost silently, it is an environmentally friendly device, which is especially important for fishermen and those who love outdoor recreation.
Scope
The outboard motor can be installed on various types of small vessels. It is suitable for PVC inflatable boats equipped with both a hinged and stationary transom, as well as for plastic and aluminum boats. In addition, it can be used for water bikes. This unit is versatile in use: it can serve as the main engine for moving the vessel, an auxiliary device for maneuvering in narrow or hard-to-reach places, as well as for trolling fishing when low-speed movement is required. Fisher 26 is excellent for operation in both fresh and salt water due to the high corrosion resistance of the materials.
Advantages
It has many positive qualities that make it a very profitable purchase. First of all, it is worth noting its low price, which makes it an affordable option for most owners of small boats. In addition, the model is highly economical in electricity consumption - about two kilowatt-hours of energy are enough to fully charge the traction battery. The design is made so that there are no components and parts that require regular lubrication or maintenance, and there is also no need to preserve the device in the winter, which greatly facilitates its operation.
The steering is carried out using a telescopic tiller, which can be adjusted in length for maximum ease of control, adjusting it to the user's height and preferences. The reliability of this Fisher is significantly higher compared to gasoline engines, since it does not have such complex components as an internal combustion engine, gearbox and cooling system - all this reduces the risk of breakdowns and increases the service life of the device. Only high-quality materials are used for the manufacture of the body and parts: cast aluminum with anti-corrosion coating, durable composite fiberglass, impact-resistant ABS plastic and nylon, which ensures durability and resistance to external factors.
Environmental safety is manifested in the fact that it does not emit harmful exhaust gases and does not require the use of oils and fuels that can pollute water bodies. In addition, it operates almost silently, without interfering with enjoying nature, and does not scare away aquatic life, which is especially important for fishermen. The low weight of the device makes it easy to carry and install on a boat without much effort. The presence of a battery charge indicator simplifies monitoring of the energy level, which prevents unexpected discharge during operation.
Important operating features
Although the Fisher 26 does not require regular maintenance, there are several important recommendations to consider for reliable and long-lasting operation:
- It is strictly not recommended to use car batteries for connection, as they are not designed for deep discharge cycles and can quickly fail.
- As a power source, traction gel or AGM batteries should be used, which must have a capacity not lower than that recommended by the manufacturer. Using a battery with a lower capacity will lead to rapid discharge and shorten the battery life.
- Be sure to monitor the battery charge level and do not allow the voltage to drop below 10.5 V. Deep discharge negatively affects AGM and gel batteries, significantly reducing their service life.
- The weight is about 24 kilograms, which should be taken into account when planning the total loading of the boat to maintain its stability and safety.
- The speed of the electric motor for the boat and the propeller does not allow the boat to be driven on a speedboat, so when the motor is running, the vessel always moves in a mode suitable for calm sailing and fishing.
Main unit design
In the upper part there is an electronics that controls the speed of rotation of the motor. To protect against moisture and dust, this part is placed in a durable plastic case that is resistant to ultraviolet radiation and vibrations. The case cover is fastened with six screws and, if necessary, can be easily removed for maintenance or repair. Externally, the main unit has a streamlined shape and is made with a glossy black surface, which gives the device a neat and modern appearance.
The telescopic tiller is made of durable ABS plastic. It allows not only to set the course of the boat, but also to adjust the speed of rotation of the propeller. Switching between five forward and three reverse speeds is carried out by turning the tiller handle around the axis. When reverse is engaged, the propeller rotates in the opposite direction, which eliminates the need for the user to physically deploy the Fisher 26 electric motor. When the tiller is set to the "zero" position, it is completely turned off. Gear shifting is accompanied by a clear fixation and an audible click, which facilitates control not only visually, but also by ear.
The telescopic tiller design allows you to increase its length by 15 centimeters for more comfortable control, especially during long crossings. When folded, the tiller length is 18 centimeters, and when unfolded, it is 30 centimeters.
Stand
The rack is a tube inside which wires pass, transmitting electric current from the main unit to the electric motor. It is made of strong and lightweight fiberglass, which not only reduces the total weight, but is also able to withstand shock loads that arise during possible collisions with the bottom or obstacles. The height of the rack is 75 centimeters, which makes it suitable for boats with a transom height of up to 381 millimeters. For boats with a transom height of greater height, this unit will not be suitable, because the propeller will not be able to immerse itself in the water to the required depth.
The rack has a clamp with a ram screw, which allows you to quickly change the depth of the screw. To do this, simply loosen the ram, raise or lower the rack to the desired level, and then fix the position with the screw again. This adjustment is especially convenient when moving through shallow water areas.
Fastening
For reliable installation on the boat transom, two clamps with reinforced nylon frames and steel clamping screws are used. Each screw is equipped with a convenient handle-ram, which allows you to fix the motor without using tools, as well as a nut that prevents damage to the transom and provides a stronger fastening. When installing, it is important to place the unit strictly in the center of the transom to avoid deterioration of controllability and displacement of the boat to the side during movement.
For ease of control during navigation, the ability to adjust the rotation force of the rack is provided by means of a screw located between the clamps. By tightening the screw, you can achieve stable maintenance of the set course without deviations, which facilitates long transitions. If necessary, maneuvering, the screw is loosened so that the engine rotates freely and without unnecessary effort.
The tilt of the stand is adjustable within 90 degrees and fixed in eight intermediate positions with a step of 10 degrees, which allows you to avoid damage to the propeller when driving in shallow water. To change the tilt angle, simply press the lever on the stand, set the required position and release the lever, fixing the unit.
Technical specifications
The electric motor is powered by a 12-volt traction battery with a recommended capacity of 80 ampere-hours. To fully charge the battery, it takes approximately 1.5 to 2 kilowatt hours of electricity, which provides more than three hours of operation at maximum speed. During this time, a 2.3-meter-long boat with a load of 90 kilograms is able to travel a distance of more than 15 kilometers, which is much more profitable and environmentally friendly compared to using a gasoline engine.
It connects to the traction gel or AGM battery using 1.25 meter long wires equipped with red (positive) and black (negative) connectors. The wire is tested for durability and can withstand over a thousand bends without damage.
At the fifth speed, it develops a power of 280 watts, consumes a current of 23 amperes, provides a pulling force of 11.8 kilograms and a propeller rotation speed of 1200 revolutions per minute. The total height is 105 centimeters, and the weight is 6 kilograms. The noise level during operation does not exceed 50 decibels, which practically does not drown out natural sounds and does not scare away fish.
Design features
The Fischer electric motor is equipped with carbon brushes and is enclosed in a durable waterproof cast aluminum housing, which provides reliable protection against water and external factors. An important design feature is the absence of gearboxes: the propeller is mounted directly on the electric motor shaft without the use of transmission gears and bearings. This simplicity of design significantly reduces the likelihood of breakdowns and simplifies maintenance, making it more reliable in operation.
Propellers and their installation
For easy installation of the screws, the kit includes the necessary parts: a wrench, a key, a nut and a washer. The installation process is extremely simple and includes several steps. First, the key is inserted into the hole on the motor shaft, while it is important to position it horizontally - in this position it is securely fixed and will not fall out. Then the screw is put on the shaft so that the key falls into the recess on its housing. After that, a washer is installed on the end of the shaft, and the nut is fixed using a wrench.
To protect the propeller from damage in case of accidental contact with the bottom, the design includes a special keel that prevents the propeller from hitting obstacles.
Battery charge indicator
For easy monitoring of the traction battery charge level, a ten-segment LED indicator is installed on the top panel of the main unit. Seven of them are colored green, indicating a safe charge level, and three are red, warning of the need for charging. If the indicator shows that it is in the green zone, this means that the battery is operating normally and is ready for operation. When only the red diodes are lit, the battery is almost completely discharged and requires immediate charging or replacement.
Ignoring this warning and continuing to use the battery when it is low may result in deep discharge of the battery, which will cause irreversible damage and a sharp decrease in the number of charging cycles, and in the worst case, battery failure.
